FRC - FIRST Robotics Competition
Under strict rules, limited resources, and the guidance of volunteer mentors including engineers, teachers, business professionals, parents, alumni and more, teams of 25+ students have just six weeks to build and program robots to perform challenging tasks against a field of competitors. They must also raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills, and perform community outreach. In addition to learning valuable STEM and life skills, participants are eligible to apply for $50+ million in college scholarships.
A definition of a “Perfect Storm” is one that is a “rare combination of diverse factors with unpredictable, drastic or powerful results.” A true storm builds at the core. The core of Tempest is a rare cross-section of students surrounded by a consistent group of mentors to create a powerful perimeter that holds the storm together. Members come from athletic teams, band, student council, and clubs and organizations to our extracurricular team. This core has a group of seniors with an average ACT score of 31. Recognized each of the twelve years by FIRST in some form of award, Tempest continues to fuel its strength with intensity.
