FTC - FIRST Tech Challenge
Following a sports model, FIRST® Tech Challenge teams (10+ members) design, build, program, and operate robots of their own design to play a floor game in an alliance format. Guided by adult Coaches and Mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships.
The second band of our storm began as FIRST Tech Challenge in 2013. The FTC portion of Tempest has advanced to state level consistently and was even awarded the INSPIRE and CONNECT award this year. This year we were excited to add an additional qualifier for FTC, the Gulf Coast Qualifying Tournament. Prior to the FTC, we hosted a Build Day, a first for us. Teams came to our campus for a day of building and brainstorming with the intent of teams who could leave with a working robot. Two new teams evolved from our Build Day. Our FTC team also competed at our State Competition in Oxford, Mississippi.
